In 2016, Jeremy graduated magna cum laude from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in physical science. There, he was part of the Sigma Xi Honors Society and completed an honors thesis studying the effects of an endocrine-disrupting chemical, mono-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, on reproductive health. Later that year, Jeremy moved to the UK to earn a Master of Philosophy studying clinical science at the University of Cambridge. He earned that degree in 2017, graduating with distinction and being recognized with the first place Poster Presentation Award of the joint MPhil clinical science/ DPhil experimental medicine initiative cohort. Jeremy matriculated at Perelman Medical School in 2018, where he is currently a fourth-year dual degree MD/MPH student. With a passion for environmental and social justice, Jeremy has focused his clinical work here on addressing youth homelessness and mental health in Philadelphia, specifically social inequity in Asbestos exposure with the Center for Excellence in Environmental Toxicology. Now, he is pursuing his MPH at the intersection of toxic environmental stress, greenspace, climate change, and mental health.

 

Jeremy began working with the BarziLab in November of 2020, following his interest in the role of the environment in mental health. Currently, he is working on the CovidSilience project, assessing the protective effects that urban greenspace has had on the mental health of study participants throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. In the future, Jeremy hopes to become a child and adolescent psychiatrist, working not only as a clinician to foster resilience and treat the mental health needs of children, but also as a public health researcher and advocate to improve resources for people suffering from the neuropsychiatric consequences of environmental exposures. When he is not absorbed in the hustle and bustle of being a clinical research and medical student, Jeremy enjoys spending his free time painting and playing his guitar, preferably while hiking or camping in the nation's wonderful National Parks.
